With Thursday 8th May marking the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, a number of activities across the day were planned for students to reflect on the significance of the event. We were very grateful to Major Murphy from the Royal Engineers leading year group assemblies where students were given the opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices that were made and how they impact on our lives today. He talked about the fact that since VE day, British forces have been involved in an operation every single day around the world somewhere before sharing the different conflict zones that he’s served in. Following that, we joined the nation in marking the two minutes silence at 12p.m.
The VE Day Victoria sponge competition was very impressive. Miss Robson reports ‘The winner was Max in Year 9. The winning factors were the magnificent design (Union Jack cake) and freshness of the cream and berries. Well done!
The School Council meanwhile, had busily organised a bake sale which raised £100.10 for The British Legion. Our thanks go to Emily (Year 9) and Ava (Year 7) for their cakes which boosted the sales of the bake sale. We were also grateful for a kind donation from Morrisons.
