And so as we’ve hurtled towards the Summer break, we’ve been making the most of every opportunity. As you’re aware, last Friday a group of our Year 11s went across to King James’s School for a post-16 taster day. Mrs. Mannion reports, ‘What a welcome we received there and it was a brilliant day. Over 50 students took part and attended a range of taster lessons which included a variety of subjects such as Digital Photography, Economics, Further Maths, Media Studies, Product Design, Sociology and Textiles. Students were able to have their break and lunch in the new sixth form centre. Students also tried the food in the sixth form cafe, paninis were very popular! There was also a tour of the school after lunch. Students gave lots of feedback including,
“The teachers introduced the subjects very well.”
“The Year 12 students who were helping were kind and made us feel welcome.”
“The cafe was awesome, with a lot of options.”
“There is a study room in the sixth form centre which looks good.”
“The sixth form centre was really well set up and we talked to a lot of students who we did not know.”
We would like to thank King James’s School for making us feel so welcome and especially thank Mr Churchill and Ms Sewell for all their hard work in making the event possible.’
This visit links in with our CEIAG (Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance) strategy and as part of this we have displayed, around the school, information about past students and where they are now. So, this week we were delighted to hear of the success of Harvey who left Boroughbridge High School five years ago with the dream of becoming a doctor. On completing his A levels Harvey went on to study Medicine at The University of Manchester and this week he graduated. He’s starting his first Doctor position in Harrogate next month. What an amazing achievement and our congratulations go to him.

With the Summer holidays mind, Mr. Grierson has kept safety at the heart of his assemblies this week. He’s talked through possible dangers, giving students advice on how they can keep safe. The Local Authority have also published guidance for parents and carers which can be found here
Sports Day on Wednesday was an absolute triumph. It is such a heart-warming whole school community event which, quite honestly, seems to get better and better every year. Along with excellence, students are rewarded for participation and it was lovely to see so many students involved in events whilst the rest of their form class cheered them on. Field events took place in the morning under a slightly cloudy sky and then the sun shone through for the afternoon track events and I’m delighted to report that 17 school records were broken across the year groups. Winning form classes were 8SW, 9SCA, 10AB and 11DG. Well done to all!
So, it was a return to the Great Yorkshire Show on Thursday, an important event for our local community and an excellent venue for our Rewards Trip. As hundreds of students gathered in the Sports Hall before getting on the coaches, there was a definite air of excitement. Students were superb throughout the day, thoroughly enjoying the experience. They returned, getting off the coaches, all with large smiles and some with large furry toys which had been won!
And so to today. Before the day began, some of our students were showing their care for nature when they found a young hedgehog in distress. They alerted Mr. Hepburn who helped them to rescue the hedgehog which is now on the road to recovery.
During Lesson 3 we had our whole school assembly where we were able to celebrate our successes through photos, music and awards. It’s great to reflect on the past year and see the wide range of opportunities that our young people have access to and maximise. It is clear how incredibly proud we are of our school community and that our values, that we are ambitious, respectful and resilient are lived values at the heart of everything that we do.
