Oh what a week! We’ve continued with lots of high quality learning whilst also ensuring that we’ve thrown ourselves into the festive season.
Christmas Dinner Day on Wednesday was a great event. With the usual Christmas songs playing in the background, students enjoyed a delicious dinner and laughed at the usual almost funny cracker jokes! It was lovely to see that a few party hats made it through the afternoon and on to buses for the journey home. A big thank you goes to our catering team. In the corner of the Dining Hall, we also continued with our chocolate tombola to raise money for the homeless shelter. Ellie, a member of the School Council, was fantastic and managed to secure a real boost to the funds with the final total being £181.28. Thank you for your support with this and to everyone in our school community who has contributed to our reverse advent. We have collected a large number of food donations which were taken to local food banks this morning.
On Wednesday evening, we welcomed back to Boroughbridge High School the class of 2025 and their families for our Awards Evening. The Hall was absolutely packed and it was fantastic to hear how our former students were successfully embracing their post-16 studies. We celebrated our successes as a school in 2025 before we walked down memory lane, seeing photos of our class of 2025 as they moved through school. We recognised their excellent results before certificates were given out and awards and prizes presented by members of our local community to students for their remarkable achievements.
Thursday marked our annual inter form Tug of War competition. With everyone arriving in their PE kit, they were ready for action. Each year group competed throughout the day with everyone being involved in participating or supporting. Mr. Field, Mrs. Bradford, Miss Robson and Mr. Godsell-Wright took their festive costumes to a whole new level and music played throughout led to some interesting inter-competition dancing! Points were awarded for wins and resilience was in abundance as some teams, on the verge of losing, discovered an energy spurt and pulled to victory. A magnificent day all round. We genuinely felt like everyone was a winner but, on points, the victors were 7NC, 8SA, 9AB, 10SV and 11MR.
You may have seen Amelia in Year 10 who made an impressive appearance in The Yorkshire Vet’s spin off series ‘At Home with the Greens’ on Thursday evening. Well done Amelia. 
And so to our whole school assembly this morning. Over the past few years, this has become a Boroughbridge High School tradition where we gather to celebrate our achievements, sharing many photos, enjoying performances and engaging in communal singing. We also announced the winners of the annual Christmas Door competition which has grown to new competitive heights with this year having a student vote to establish the winners. 7SW made it to the top, with the Pastoral Office in 2nd place and 9LE coming in 3rd. It was, however, fun for all!
As you’ll have seen in the Headteacher’s Update, we’re delighted that Mrs. Thompson is joining the pastoral team as Pastoral Manager for Year 9 and we’ll be welcoming Mrs. Popovics in January who will be Pastoral Manager for Year 7.
Our congratulations go to Miss Robson as she has qualified as an INTO officiating netball umpire, having passed her assessment last month, which means that she can now umpire local league games.
